Red Bull, known for its daring concepts, devised a rather unique race. Marcin Dzieński, world and European champion in speed climbing, competed against… an elevator. Climbing holds were affixed to the exterior wall of the Olympic Center in Warsaw.

While speed climbing is an exhilarating sport, racing against an elevator at the Olympic Center gained spectacle from the nighttime setting. Marcin usually ascends 15-meter walls, but this challenge was even greater – the wall spanned 23 meters. He conquered it in a remarkable 12.12 seconds!

Challeange

We were tasked with a distinctive challenge: designing and fabricating a climbing hold in the shape of the well-known Red Bull logo. The hold needed to look striking in photographs and, above all, fulfill all durability requirements.

Solution

Our design team crafted the climbing hold, which was then 3D printed using HP Multi Jet Fusion technology and Polyamide PA12 material. The client approached the idea of 3D printing something meant to withstand such immense stress with skepticism. Particularly, given that the hold’s durability directly impacted the climber’s safety. However, prior to the race, the hold successfully underwent numerous durability tests, all of which it passed. Everyone was impressed by the resilience of the HP MJF-printed hold.

Comprehensive Execution

Upon receiving the client's brief, we undertook the entire process, from preparing the 3D model to delivering the ready-to-mount climbing hold.

Industrial Durability

Client concerns primarily revolved around the hold's safety and durability. However, after initial tests, all doubts were dispelled. The hold met all safety requirements.

Lead Time

We needed a week to finalize the 3D model of the hold, followed by another week for 3D printing and finishing. Consequently, we delivered the final order within 2 weeks of order confirmation.
